Cold Weather is Coming!
Tuesday will feature temperatures soaring into the 70s during the afternoon. Enjoy it, because much colder air is coming.
A strong arctic front from will cross the area Wednesday. Ahead of it, temperatures in the morning will be in the low 60s. As the front passes, temperatures will fall through the 50s and perhaps even into the 40s before the day is done. Once the chill arrives, it's here to stay for a while.
Temperatures through the weekend will peak in the upper 40s and low 50s during the afternoon and bottom out in the 20s and 30s. While these numbers are well below average, they are not record-setting.
The reason for the change? The jet stream. For the last month, the jet stream flow across America has basically been from west to east. That means our air comes from the much milder Pacific ocean instead of the dark and frigid regions of Canada. The jet stream is in the process of buckling and diving southward. Once this pattern becomes established over the eastern U.S. it will likely stay in place through the middle part of December.
While rain chances are high Wednesday through Friday, there are no signs of winter precipitation through the weekend.
