Coastal Carolina beats Hampton in CBI opener

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers men's basketball team beat the Hampton Pirates 83-67 in a College Basketball Invitational first round game at the HTC Center in Conway, SC.

Demario Beck scored 21 points with nine rebounds and three blocked shots for CCU.

Jaylen Shaw led all scorers with 22 points.

Coastal trailed 38-31 after Hampton (14-17) scored the first seven points in the second half.

But the Chanticleers shot 68.8 percent from the field in the second half and pulled away scoring 52 points over the final 20 minutes.

CCU dominated the boards, outrebounding Hampton 44-28.

Coastal Carolina (17-17) advanced to round two of the sixteen team CBI tournament. They will host Loyola Maryland on Monday, March 20 at 7 p.m. at the HTC Center.

Loyola Maryland upset George Mason 73-58 to reach round two.
