Eric Smith will transfer to Coastal Carolina

Eric Smith will play his final season of college basketball at Coastal Carolina.

Former Mullins High star point guard Eric Smith told Coastal Carolina Assistant Basketball Coach Benny Moss last night that he will transfer to CCU and play for the Chanticleers next season.

Smith, who was the 2009 WPDE Mister Hoop Zone winner, is one of four players released from the University of South Carolina basketball team last week. He says he plans to graduate from South Carolina before his final season of college eligibility at Coastal. Smith will not have to sit out a year if he completes his summer school courses at USC. He plans to get a master's degree in education at CCU.

Smith averaged 5.7 points and 3.1 assists per game. He averaged 27.7 minutes a game in his junior season, nearly doubling his minutes from his first two years in Columbia and had a career high 17 points in the Gamecocks win over Morgan State in November.
