Coastal Carolina Makes Playoffs With 70-3 Win

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Zach MacDowall threw five touchdown passes and rushed for another score Saturday as Coastal Carolina rolled to a 70-3 win over Charleston Southern. Coastal has made the FCS playoffs by winning a tie-breaker with Stony Brook and Liberty. CCU finishes the season as tri-champion of the Big South Conference, but Coastal won a tiebreaker with least points allowed within the conference. Coastal's first playoff game will be on Saturday, November 27th with an opponent, site and game time to be announced.

The Chanticleers (6-5, 5-1 Big South) scored on all but two of their offensive possessions, and returned an interception and a punt for touchdowns. MacDowall completed 15 of 20 passes for 248 yards, and threw for touchdowns to five receivers. Eric O'Neal, who caught a 23-yard scoring pass, also rushed for a 7-yard touchdown and was the Chanticleers' leading rusher with 65 yards on 11 carries.

After Andy Brown kicked a 43-yard field goal to pull Charleston Southern (3-8, 1-5) within 14-3, MacDowall threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Racheed Gause, Tre Henderson returned an interception 66 yards for a score, and Niccolo Mastromatteo returned a punt 91 yards to give the Chanticleers a 35-3 halftime lead.
