Whip Up Your Weekend: Sugar cookies, (WPDE)

Sunday, July 9th, marks National Sugar Cookie Day. Chef Geoff shows you how to make a classic cookie even better.


  • 2 3?4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1?2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1?2 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract


1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.

2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat

3. in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded

4. teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.

5. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let

6. stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.

Chef Geoff recommends rolling the dough in crushed cookies, pumpkin spices or coconut.
