Unique ways to experience the Total Solar Eclipse

The Total Solar Eclipse is just a few weeks away and all eyes will be on the sky for this rare phenomenon.

And many places are offering up cool ways for you to experience the event.

For example, Black River Outdoors is hosting an eclipse kayak tour and Founders Club at Pawleys Island and Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club are hosting a special shot gun eclipse round of golf.

Black River Outdoors is using its event to raise money for the Hunnington Beach State Park Nature Center after it burned down last year, the owner said.

“The state and the insurance are paying for the building to be rebuilt but there are a lot of expensive exhibits and we’re helping raise money to pay for the exhibits," Richard Laurent said.

Laurent said a lot of research went into the best place for the kayak tour so people can really see totality.

“Being so close to the center line, we will get a great show and there is some pretty spectacular stuff that happens," he said.

The head golf professional at Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club said the eclipse is a great opportunity for them to bring a different type of event to their golfers.

“The eclipse is kind of the star of the show here. For a lot of people golf will be sort of secondary. So, don’t come out expecting your fastest round ever. You know, enjoy the day, enjoy the eclipse," he said.

People who decide to spend the day on the water will also get the unique experience of seeing how the wildlife reacts.

“The wildlife behavior can be interesting. They will suddenly be confused. It’s going to be dark in the middle of the afternoon," Laurent said.

Both events will take place on Aug. 21 and people who participate will receive special eclipse glasses.
