Woman accused of leaving baby in dumpster is now out on bond

Horry County Police have now identified the suspect accused of throwing a newborn baby in a dumpster near Socastee Thursday afternoon.

Shelby Harper Taylor, 23, of Myrtle Beach has been released from the hospital, then was booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

On Saturday, she was charged with one count of attempted murder and bond was set at $10,000.

She posted bond and left the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Saturday around 6 p.m.

Taylor cried when her attorney Gregory McCollum talked about the little girl in front of a judge Saturday.

Taylor is also the mother of a 15-month-old daughter. She will not be able to see her without permission from the Department of Social Services.

Her attorney said Taylor was born and raised in Socastee. He said she's married and has no criminal record.

Taylor was served with her arrest warrants Saturday after she was released from the hospital.

We asked her attorney why she was hospitalized and he said because of privacy reasons he couldn't comment.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for June 19th.

The newborn girl was found Thursday afternoon in a dumpster on Fairway Village Drive in the Island Green subdivision near Socastee by two teen brothers.
