Duke Energy presented the Town of Timmonsville with a $5,000 grant Thursday to assist with landscaping by providing native plants, which will help with water runoff and erosion for the town's green space project.

The Timmonsville revitalization committee began working to rebuild the town's image through sprucing up the downtown a few years ago.

The committee had a five year plan that includes demolishing some old, rundown buildings that are eyesores in the small town.

The town got a $7,500 grant last year to start demolishing old buildings to make way for green space projects.

The revitalization committee believes by improving the appearance of the downtown it will help steer economic development and continue with the town's growth.
