Fishing with the hometown advantage, Team South Carolina entered the 2018 B.A.S.S. Nation Eastern Regional Championship as favorites, according to the tournament's organizers.

But after all the fish were weighed on Thursday afternoon, another team took home the top prize: Delaware.

Team Delaware's total catch weighed in at 172 pounds, 9 ounces; a single pound more than South Carolina's 171 pounds, 9 ounces.

“We’re probably one of the smallest federations out there, but we have a lot of good anglers," Delaware Team President Shawn Taylor said.

Delaware team members said they lost to Florida during the 2017 competition, which made the victory even sweeter.

More than 100 fishermen will cast their lines Friday for the individual competition, and a chance to compete at the national championship.
