South Carolina flu activity downgraded from 'widespread' to 'regional'

The flu cases last week in South Carolina were regional and not 'widespread,' according to The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental's flu report for Feb. 25 to March 3.

But some of those areas with the highest weekly influenza case rate are in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee, namely Dillon, Florence, Chesterfield and Georgetown counties, according to the report.

There were 8 deaths from the flu that happened last week and 26 deaths that were reported last week but actually occurred earlier, the report states.

Compared to the previous week, the number of reported hospitalizations decreased by 121 (63.4 percent) and the number of reported deaths decreased by 9 (52.9 percent).
