Second suspect arrested in missing 11-month old case (WPDE)

Ladasha Harriet, the mother of the baby, has been charged with homicide by child abuse, according to police.

Police say Daquan Jamal Simmons is also being charged with homicide by child abuse.

Harriet and Simmons appeared before a magistrate judge for a bond hearing at 3 p.m. on Sunday, no bond was set for either of them.

Sunday, the magistrate judge said the appearance in court was strictly to advise rights heading into the process.

Harriet and Simmons were told the minimum penalty both of them could be facing for their charges is 20 years in prison, the maximum is life in prison.

The two will head to Conway and will learn about bond in circuit court in the near future.

Saturday, officials discovered what they believe to be the remains of the baby. Additional examination and testing will be needed to validate their belief.

Police posted to Facebook that the man arrested is the boyfriend of the baby's mother.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the baby, as well as the officials who've worked on this investigation," said Captain Joey Crosby, the public information officer for the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

On Wednesday, police started investigating the report of a baby missing since July.

Neighbors say they have not seen the baby since July.

On Thursday, officials served a search warrant on 3rd Avenue South in Myrtle Beach they say related to the case.

Police say the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Special Victim's Unit is assisting with the investigation.
