Scotland County community to hold prayer vigil for sheriff
Scotland County, S.C. (WPDE) —
A prayer vigil will be taking place Thursday at 7 p.m. outside of the Scotland County Courthouse on Biggs Street in Laurinburg for Scotland County Sheriff Ralph Kersey.
Kersey was diagnosed with kidney cancer last month.
Organizers of the prayer vigil said they'll pray for his healing and recovery before he has surgery Friday morning.
Kersey said he's truly thankful that so many people care.
"I would like to thank everyone for their messages, calls and prayers. I am one blessed man and my Lord is in control and He will see me through this difficult time. From my family and I, thank you," said Kersey.
Scotland County Chief Deputy Lloyd Goins will serve as acting sheriff while Kersey is out.
