Savannah's Playground is almost ready for playtime to begin!

The specially-designed $1.5 million playground project will provide children of all physical capability levels with a new place to have fun.

Myrtle Beach City Government said the playground will feature ADA-approved play equipment and a number of interactive features, all atop a springy safety surface.

The grand opening is scheduled for Sept. 3.

Savannah's Playground is located next to Crabtree Memorial Gym at Grand Park, across the lake from The Market Common.

The playground is named after and dedicated to Myrtle Beach teenager Savannah Thompson. Savannah has supravalvular aortic stenosis. She was just four years old when she had her first heart surgery that left significant brain trauma.

Mayor Rhodes said this will be the largest playground of its kind on the east coast.
