"POPS with the Pelicans," an outdoor musical performance, is set for Saturday at the Myrtle Beach Pelican Ballpark.

The performance will feature the Long Bay Symphony playing music from popular movies and Broadway shows, as well as the classics and some patriotic favorites.

Opening for the Long Bay Symphony will be the Long Bay Youth Symphony, which includes a number of young musicians. George Jennings is one of them.

Jennings first picked up a cello when he started middle school.

"We listened to the orchestra play and I was really amazed with the cello," said George. "So, I picked it up in the 6th grade and never stopped."

His twin brother, Brian Jennings, couldn't help but do the same.

"I saw how much fun he was having in the orchestra so I decided I might as well take it up as well," said Brian.

The two now play together in the Long Bay Youth Symphony and in the youth string trio with another violinist, Alvina Emarn.

"It's a great experience," said Emarn. "I love playing with other musicians who are as passionate about music as I am."

The group travels to perform in various locations, but this weekend they'll perform at POPS with the Pelicans.

"We'll be doing an outdoor POPS concert full of show tunes, patriotic music, fireworks, the whole bit," said Charles Jones Evans, the Long Bay Symphony music director.

"Playing at different Long Bay events is fun because, not only do we play, but we get to see what's in store for us with the future if we continue with music," said Alvina.

The Jennings twins hope to continue playing and someday pursue a musical career together.

POPS with the Pelicans will be held Saturday, Sept. 3 at Field in Myrtle Beach. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and the show will start at 7:30 p.m.
