The Marion County Coroner says one person is dead in a shooting on Bluff Street in Marion.

Quinton Williams died after being shot Tuesday afternoon outside an apartment complex on Bluff Street in Marion, according to Marion County Coroner Jerry Richardson.

Neighbors say shots were fired near an apartment complex and someone was critically wounded. Responding officers roped off the area with crime scene tape.

Johnakin Middle School was placed under a lockdown "due to police activity in the area." The Marion County School District asked parents for patience during dismissal.

Police are treating the incident as a murder and say no one is in custody.

Richardson said an autopsy will be performed on Williams' body to determine the specifics of his death.

Marion Police Chief Tony Flowers said they're still trying to get to the bottom of what led to the deadly shooting.

Many people in the community said they're concerned about so much violence in Marion and they question if some of it can be traced to gangs.

Calls to Flowers to learn more information about the recent shooting have not yet been returned.
