Pedestrian hit and killed Friday morning on Hwy. 501 in Horry County
Horry County, S.C. (WPDE) —
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating after a person was hit and killed on U.S. 501 Friday morning.
Cpl. Sonny Collins with SCHP says the driver of a truck was merging onto the northbound lanes of 501 from Forestbrook Road around 6:10 a.m., when the truck struck a person walking in the road.
The pedestrian died as a result of their injuries.
Roderick Russell, 48, of Murrells Inlet, was identified as the person killed, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
No charges will be filed because police say the person was on the roadway illegally.
The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
