Man charged with felony DUI after one killed, six hurt in Florence crash

One person is dead, six are hurt and one is under arrest after a car wreck in Florence Tuesday night.

Alvin James Martin was charged with Felony DUI, according to Lt. Mike Brandt, with Florence police.

Police responded to the crash at the intersection of South Cashua Drive and Celebration Boulevard at 7:45 p.m.

According to police, two cars collided.

Carrie Bell Martin, 85, of Florence was killed during the two-car crash, according to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken.

von Lutcken said Martin was the "driver of the vehicle Mrs. Martin was a passenger of."

Martin's body will be sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on Thursday for an autopsy.

The incident is being investigated by the Florence Police Department and Florence County Coroner’s Office.

Martin was transported to the Florence County Detention Center.
