Multiple agencies responding to boater in distress

Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard confirm an 82-year-old was pulled from the mud and water by a helicopter and rescue swimmer Tuesday.

USCG Lt. James Zorn said the man was out oystering in the Muddy Creek area near the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge when he lost his boat and then became stuck in the pluff mud.

In addition to the USCG, teams with the Charleston County Rescue Squad, Charleston County Sheriff's Office and SCDNR were notified and/or responded to the situation.

Zorn said the man was taken to Mount Pleasant where he was met by EMS.
