More than 50 people arrested in NC roundup

GREENVILLE, N.C. - More than 50 people have been arrested in Greenville after an undercover operation focused on illegal drugs and weapons.

The Daily Reflector of Greenville reported that charges have been filed against 70 people as a result of the nine-month operation.

Police Chief Hassan Aden said officers with the department's gang unit worked with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to infiltrate criminal operations.

Aden said officers bought narcotics and weapons from confirmed gang members and others.

Lt. Carlton Williams says most of the arrests have occurred this week.

Aden said the U.S. Attorney's Office is evaluating the cases for possible federal prosecution.

Officers have seized two vehicles and 27 guns.
