11-year-old Zoi Pegues is a fifth grader by day at McColl Elementary School in Marlboro County and a budding actress by night.

Zoi is starring as one of the leads in "Annie" in a musical at the Cape Fear Theater in Fayetteville.

The theater's website said the following about the musical:

"In adventure after fun-filled adventure, little orphan Annie finds a new home and family in Daddy Warbucks and a lovable mutt named Sandy. “Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you tomorrow!” A musical treat for the entire family."

Zoi's parents, Gregory and Marilyn Pegues, said she went through an intense audition to be cast as Annie in the play.

"I am very excited to see Zoi’s hard work and determination pay off at such a young age. Our witness to Zoi has been that no matter your race or status with hard work and determination along with a great support system, you dream it, believe it, you can achieve it," said Marilyn Pegues, Zoi's Mother.

Young Zoi is no stranger to acting.

She's performed in the play the "Heart of Christmas."

Zoi said it's a dream to play the role of "Annie."

"I like having the lead role and so of course it was about Annie. I like the story because she has hope that one day she will find her parents because she'd been kept up in an orphanage," said Zoi.

The young actress is balancing it all. She's a straight "A" student in school. Her teachers said she has a great work ethic and is a role model for fellow students.

Her principal said she has a bright future in whatever she does.

You can watch Zoi starring as "Annie" at the Cape Fear Theater from now until March 2.
