A manhunt was underway in Florence County Monday night in the area of Freedom Blvd. and National Cemetery Road.

As of 11:15p.m. investigators were still searching a wooded area there.

Major Mike Nunn with the Florence County Sheriff's Department said neighbors in the area were asked to shelter in place.

Original reports stated that deputies were searching for a sex offender, but deputies have since said they are unable to confirm that.

Major Nunn said they are searching for a suspect who fled from highway patrol troopers.

Deputies said a child was found inside a car about 9:45p.m. They have not said how that child is related to the manhunt.

Major Nunn said highway patrol was helping with the search.

We have a crew on scene and will continue to update this story.
