Man steals pickup with three-week-old baby inside in Lumberton


Police have found a pickup that was stolen on Mimosa Street in Lumberton Monday night with three week old baby inside, according to Captain Terry Parker with Lumberton police.

Parker said the baby is ok.

Deputies said the pickup was found at a store on Highway 41 near the Littlefield community.

At this point, Parker said they haven’t located the man who stole the truck.

Parker released the following news statement on the incident:

On Monday evening August 20, 2018 at around 8:54 p.m. The Lumberton Police Department was alerted of an auto larceny and kidnapping at 1414 Mimosa Street. Officers arrived on the scene and found the resident who stated someone stole the families 2014 Ford F-150 crew cab dark grey in color with the residences 3 week old baby in the back seat of the truck.
A be on the lookout 'BOLO' was given to officers working in the city and county and at around 9:05 p.m. the truck was parked in the parking lot of Billy Cox’s Grocery located on 41 North about three miles outside the city limits of Lumberton. The suspects walked away from the truck and the baby was left in the truck unharmed.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s office was dispatched to a call at Billy Cox grocery and arrived on the scene at 9:26 p.m., when they arrived they found the stolen truck and baby was okay.
The Lumberton Police Department would like to thank the Robeson County Sheriff’s office D-squad for their quick response and help with this incident. And all other persons who helped resolve this incident quickly. At this time the Lumberton Police Department is seeking two suspects but no other information is available at this time.
