Man dead after shooting in Georgetown

A 29-year-old man is dead after he was shot several times in Georgetown Thursday night, according to the Georgetown Police Department.

Joshua Powell, 29, of Georgetown, was pronounced dead Friday morning, according to Paulette Radcliffe with the Georgetown County Coroner's Office.

He was found at around 9:45 p.m. in bushes in the 2100 block of Highmarket Street, near the KFC, and was rushed to the local hospital and then MUSC, where he died. Where the man was found is also close to the Georgetown Police Department.

Police say the shooting is believed to have happened on Prince Street and the victim eventually made it to Highmarket Street where he was found.

Investigators are working to figure out who was responsible for the deadly shooting.
