Man charged after hitting school bus in Florence

One man has been arrested after hitting a school bus in Florence Wednesday.

Torrez Ventura, Jr., 57, is charged with unlawful operation of an unsafe vehicle, leaving the scene of a collision with property damage, driving under suspension, failure to return a license after notice of suspension and driving with no insurance after the Wednesday morning incident on Irby Street, according to Lt. Mike Brandt with Florence police.

Brandt said Ventura's van was traveling north on Irby Street when it hit the rear end of the school bus that was stopped in traffic near Howe Springs Road.

He added Ventura's van then collided with a another car as he tried to leave the scene.

Ventura was later stopped by an officer with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources on Howe Springs Road near Bruins Lane.

There were no reported injuries and no students were on the bus at the time of the collision.

Ventura is has been released from the Florence County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
