UPDATE: 'Thought a meteor fell on our house:' Residents react to sonic boom heard in Horry, Georgetown counties

Residents in Horry and Georgetown counties reported hearing a loud boom around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Community members are sharing their personal surveillance video, in which you can hear the loud boom.

An official with Shaw Air Force Base confirmed that the noise is related to training operations happening this week.

The Shaw Air Force Base is using the South Carolina Electronic Warfare Range (SCEWR). Officials said approximately twelve F-16 Fighting Falcons will be participating in multiple training operations between midnight and 8 a.m., from Monday through Friday.

Community members may notice an increase in military aircraft noises during this time.
