A Myrtle Beach restaurant that has been serving people for 36 years has shut its doors.

The K&W Cafeteria at 7900 N. Kings Highway says Sunday was its last day of business.

But the other locations of this chain are still open on South Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach and on Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach.

K&W’s Digital Marketing Director Tamara Melvin said the decision to close that location was not easy.

The decision to close was emotionally difficult for the owners, who were second generation owners. It was not an impulsive choice, she said.

Melvin said the restaurant was in steady decline over the last 10 years. When a buyer was found for the property, that was the last step toward closing.

No information can be released about the buyer or any plans for the property at this time.

Melvin said the company loves its employees and they’re doing what they can to help anyone who worked at the now-closed location in Myrtle Beach.

She said those who worked long term at the restaurant are being relocated to other locations. Others are being helped through K&W’s internal job fair. Still, others may choose to go on unemployment.
