This summer, kids get the chance to be part of an interactive fashion show at Broadway at the Beach.

Every Thursday kids ages six to 16 will hit the stage.

With some polish and some glitter, six-year-old Charlie is glowing.

"The second she heard she got to have a makeover, she got really excited and ready to go," said Shayna Thornsbury, Charlie's mom. "She's covered in glitter. She's a happy girl."

Charlie is surrounded by lots of happy girls ready to "pop the runway".

They can show off their moves, their strut and their personalities.

"The whole performance is about building confidence, just feeling good about yourself no matter what and knowing that you could really do anything that you want to do and be anything that you want to be," said Julie Stephanuik, owner of Sparkles, which hosts the event.

The young models gain runway experience, coaching from a talent scout and the chance to perform on stage in front of an audience.

"It makes them feel really special and empowered, and that's what it's all about," said Stephanuik.

"Charlie has been singing and dancing like crazy since she came out, so it's nice to have a chance for her to do it in front of other people," said Thornsbury. "It helps with her confidence, too, when it comes to things like school and cheerleading."

The Pop the Runway shows are Thursdays at 5 p.m. on the Heroes Harbor stage at Broadway at the Beach. Call 843-446-STAR to register.
