Investigation underway after threat overheard at St. James Middle School
Socastee, S.C. (WPDE) —
Officials at St. James Middle School and Horry County police are investigating after a student was overheard making a statement in class about a threat, according to a posting on the school's Facebook page.
The statement was made Wednesday morning and school officials say the student’s parents were contacted.
Once the investigation has been concluded, the school says the student will face appropriate disciplinary actions per school policy and could also face criminal charges.
"We ask that parents please talk with your children regarding the dangerous consequences of making any type of an alleged threat or statement. We take the safety and security of all of our schools very serious, and we will hold students accountable for their actions," the school posted.
Horry County schools says the incident was "addressed very swiftly with the assistance of HCPD."
