Inmate at Florence County Detention Center dies

An inmate at the Florence County Detention Center died Saturday morning after a medical emergency, according to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken.

Gerald Bush, 51, of Florence, died Saturday morning at around 1 a.m., according to von Lutcken.

Bush was rushed to a local hospital ER from the Florence County Detention Center early Saturday morning for an unspecified medical emergency and died a short time later.

An autopsy was performed Sunday, but the results will be released pending toxicological and histological studies, von Lutcken said.

The incident is under investigation by the Florence County Sheriff's Office and the coroner's office with the S.C. Law Enforcement Division assisting.
