Horry County Schools celebrate 'No One Eats Alone Day'
Horry County, S.C. (WPDE) —
Several middle schools in Horry County will be celebrating "No One Eats Alone Day" on Feb. 9.
The celebration encourages children to eat lunch with students they don't know and spot others who might feel left out and include them.
"No One Eats Alone Day" was started by Beyond Differences: "a student-led social justice movement and the only organization dedicated to ending social isolation by empowering students to become activists and change the culture of middle school," according to the organization.
The day was piloted in a handful of middle schools in Marin County, Ca. in 2012. Last year, 2000 schools participated across all 50 states.
One of the schools participating is Myrtle Beach Middle School. They created a video for the event that shows why it's and important day for the students.
