Horry County Council approves road to potential Bucksport marine industrial park

After years of back and forth, a proposed marine industrial park in Bucksport is a big step closer to reality.

Horry County Council approved the construction of a road from Highway 701 to the site Tuesday night.

Developing the project was one of the original requests from Grand Strand Water and Sewer.

"What we didn't want to do is go directly into the community, because there will obviously be trucks and things like that, so there will be a new entry road that will take you into the Bucksport Marina, and that's part of the participation of Horry County," said Horry County Council Chairman, Mark Lazarus.

Officials hope boat manufacturers will move to the park, bringing new jobs.

Horry County would not pay for the construction of the road.
