The area is inching closer and closer to the completion dates for two major projects: The extension of S.C. 31 and the widening of S.C. 707.

Fall 2018 is now the anticipated completion date for both, according to Kelly Moore, Horry County spokeswoman.

She said specific completion dates can't be given out because the contractors could ask for additional contract extensions due to weather delays.

The fate of both projects are intertwined, according to Moore.

"Both projects will complete around the same [time.] With that being said, the 707 widening must be completed before we route traffic off of 31 to 707 to accommodate the increased traffic flow," she said.

The original completion date of the projects were June 30, 2017, for the Carolina Bays Parkway and Aug. 31, 2017 for the 707 widening.

Moore said the delays were due to weather and utility issues.
