Gun found in Scotland County elementary student's book bag

SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WPDE) — A gun was found in a student’s book bag Friday morning at Laurel Hill Elementary School, according to Scotland County Sheriff Ralph Kersey.

Kersey said the weapon was seized and the Scotland County Detective Division is investigating the incident.

He added the “situation was handled quietly and cautiously without posing any threat or harm to school staff or students then or now.“

Kersey said additional information will be released as the investigation permits.
