SOCIETY HILL, S.C. (WPDE) — A third election for the Society Hill mayoral’s race has triggered a mandatory recount, according to Darlington County Election and Voter Registration Director Hoyt Campbell.
Campbell said Dewayne Duke gained 112 votes to Incumbent Tommy Bradshaw’s 110 votes.
He added because the results are a difference of less than 1% they’ll have to do a recount.
The first election on Nov. 2 ended in a runoff. The runoff resulted in a tie which led to a third election.

The results from Tuesday’s election are unofficial and will be certified Thursday, Campbell said.
Bradshaw has served as mayor of Society Hill for the past eight years. He won re-election in 2017 in a landslide victory.
Duke has lived in the community for the past couple of years and said back in July he planned to run for mayor to spark change.
