Horry County, S.C. (WPDE) — There will be no football this season at the South Strand Recreation Center in Horry County.
Officials say only 95 kids signed up for tackle football this fall across two age groups.
Back in 2013, the program had more than 300 kids participating.
The drop in registrations means the programs just wasn't sustainable this season, officials say.
The program would need at least 120 kids per age group to hold a league.
"Colleagues that I've spoken with -- this is a trend at other departments as well," said Paul McCullough, the program director.
In place of football, the recreation center is now offering a fall soccer program.
