Florence restaurants coming together to help police officers shot in line of duty
Florence, S.C. (WPDE) —
Several restaurants across Florence are coming together to help six police officers shot last Wednesday in the line of duty outside a home on Ashton Drive in the Vintage Place subdivision of Florence.
Florence Police Sgt. Terrence Carraway died in the shooting.
Restaurant owners and managers said they wanted to do something to give back.
Kyle Hardee and his fellow owners of King Jefe Taco Bar said they owe it to the officers to help them during their time of need.
“A lot of people support our law-enforcement officers. And that’s just what we decided to do. Being in the restaurant industry, you know, we serve people. It makes us feel good to serve people. And that’s what we do best so we did use that to help the law enforcement officers,” said Hardee.
King Jefe is sending all proceeds from a special drink called the " The Blue and the Brave" to the wounded officers and their families.
So far, they've raised more than $1,500.
Hardee said many restaurants came together and provided food for the family of Sgt. Carraway and law enforcement officers following Carraway's memorial service.
Hardee added it feels good to help those who work to protect us everyday.
