The body was found shortly after 11 a.m., according to the Florence County Coroner's Office.

The victim has been identified as Juan Carlos Mendoza Zurita, 23, of Tennessee, according to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken.

The cause of death is the result of multiple wounds from an edged weapon, von Lucken said.

Lt. Mike Brandt with the Florence Police Department said officers responded to a home in the 1600 block of Dexter Avenue in reference to a person down.

Lt. Brandt said officers discovered a person dead inside the home.

Dexter Drive is near the YMCA facility in Florence.

Some people in the community said they can't understand why police aren't releasing any information.

They said they knew something bad happened when they saw dozens of police on scene putting yellow crime scene tape around a home.

One woman in the community said, "I'm just very scared and very uncomfortable in my own neighborhood and scared to death to let my son even go outside."

Police haven't said why they aren't releasing any more details.

The Florence Police Department is working with the Florence County Coroner’s Office in this investigation.
