Fishing fans excited to watch pros bait some bass at massive tournament in area
Fans are excited to have a massive bass tournament in our area.
The Bassmaster Elite professional bass tournament runs until Sunday, April 10 in Winyah Bay in Georgetown.
As more than 100 anglers take off to bait some bass, spectators are thrilled to watch.
"This has always been my dream to come do this and watch all the pros," said William Cribb, a spectator from Pleasant Hill.
The Bassmaster Elite is a first for Georgetown, and the front line viewing is a first for fans.
"I love it! It's exciting," said Benjamin Watford, a fan from Kingstree. "All the fancy boats and some of the guys you see on television, and you think they're nice guys and then you meet them and they really are."
Everyone has their favorites, including this little guy.
"Go daddy!" said Christian Cherry, son of professional angler Hank Cherry.
And maybe one day, Christian will follow in his father's footsteps.
"Sometimes he takes me out hunting and fishing," said Christian. I also caught a 5-pounder and it broke off and it was a blue fish."
William Cribb is already hooked on the sport.
"Every weekend I'm out there fishing," said Cribb. "It's my dream. I'd love to come here and do something like this."
Hoping to fish here in the future.
If you want to watch anglers launch, head to the Carroll Ashmore Campbell Marine Complex by 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 9 or Sunday, April 10.
