NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — A major structure fire is now been contained at a store in North Myrtle Beach.
North Myrtle Beach Fire responded to the Barefoot General Store shortly after 11:30 p.m. Friday night.
They called in Horry County Fire Rescue, Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue, North Myrtle Beach Public Safety and Calabash Fire for assistance.
Heavy smoke was visible coming from the building as far as Highway 17 Bypass.
Crews requested a 2nd and 3rd alarm due to concerns of the fire spreading to neighboring shops with strong winds, but the fire was able to be contained to the General Store which suffered major fire damage.
The majority of crews working the scene were released shortly after 2 am, but some fire crews will remain on scene until investigators can return.
No word on what caused the fire.
