Pedestrian killed in wreck on Hwy 501 near Tanger Outlets

    One person has died Friday following a wreck on Highway 501 near Tanger Outlets at Waccamaw Pines, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

    The Horry County Coroner, Robert Edge, identified the deceased as 44-year-old Jewel Rogers, of Santee. Rogers died of injured suffered in the collision, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Patty Bellamy.

    Rogers was attempting to cross Highway 501 when she was struck by a 2011 Nissan van traveling north on the highway, according to SCHP Lnc. Cpl. David Jones.

    The northbound lanes of 501 were blocked off.

    The wreck happened around 7:25 p.m. according to SCHP.

    Horry County Fire Rescue also responded to the wreck.
