Eagle Scout raises money to buy beach wheelchair for Pawleys Island
Pawleys Island, S.C. (WPDE) —
Pawleys Island now has a wheelchair that can be used on the beach, thanks to an Eagle Scout project.
Jake Birchmeier raised the money as part of his project.
The chair will be available free of charge for anyone who needs it.
"For those people who can't afford beach wheelchairs, that they can finally see the beach in such a long time. There's some people who have never seen the beach because of their disabilities; it just makes me very happy that these people can now see the beach because of this wheelchair," said Birchmeier.
The Town of Pawleys Island officially took ownership of the wheelchair Monday.
It will be available for use starting Tuesday.
The project was planned, funded and constructed 100 percent through donations and volunteer hours.
