Dillon County man charged with felony DUI after deadly Highway 57 crash

Johnathan Brown, 24, is charged with felony DUI with death and felony DUI with great bodily injury after a crash Monday night on Highway 57 in Dillon County, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins with S.C. Highway Patrol.

Challissah L'ecole J. Mills, 26, of Florence was killed in the wreck, according to Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday when two cars were traveling north on Highway 57.

The car that Mills was driving tried to turn left into a private driveway when the car that Brown was driving went off the roadway, hit Mills' car and then hit a tree, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol's Lance Corporal Judd Jones.

Brown, as well as a 19-year-old passenger and a 15-year-old passenger, were taken to McLeod hospital, according to Jones. Information on the conditions of the two teens has not been released.

Brown is being held at the Dillon County Detention Center.
