Deputies responded to an officer-involved shooting Thursday evening on Highway 52 in Florence, according to officers on scene.

A deputy shot a suspect at the Interstate Commerce convenience store off of Highway 53. The suspect is at McLeod Regional Medical Center. His condition is not being released at this time. The deputy is said to be okay.

A portion of the road in the area was blocked off.

Deputies were seen taking a man away in handcuffs at the scene. Also, a car appeared to be surrounded by crime scene tape, but it's unclear whether it was involved in the OIS or not.

There were many patrol cars around the gas station parking lot next to the Cracker Barrel restaurant.

A witness said he saw a couple of police cars speeding down Irby Street toward Highway 52.

The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

SLED is expected to release more information sometime Friday.
