Darlington County, S.C. (WPDE) — The Darlington County Sheriff's Office is helping to investigate a sewage spill in a pond off of Race Track Road near the Darlington Raceway.
The sheriff's office said 700 gallons of sewage spilled into the pond.
Darlington County Emergency Management Director Mac McDonald said he's called the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) to help in the investigation.
DHEC released a statement:
We are investigating possible septic waste from porta potties that have allegedly been dumped into a pond on Racetrack Road in Darlington. The responsible party or parties will be responsible for remediating the discharge.
