A man was shot Wednesday afternoon near the northwest end of Darlington County, according to Lt. Robby Kilgo.

Kilgo said investigators believed a person shot into a vehicle on Sandbox Road in Lamar, injuring one person.

He added it was initially difficult to determine the exact location of the incident because, following the shooting, the victim's vehicle was driven to Northcutt Road in Hartsville and abandoned.

The victim was then taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle.

He said the man is expected to be okay.

This is the latest in a number of incidents in Darlington County, in particular near the Lamar community.

An 18-year-old man was shot and killed Monday night off of Boss Man Road in the Oates community near Lamar.

Two stores have also been robbed in the area in the past five days.

Kilgo said they’re investigating to determine if the crimes are connected.

"If we can tie it together, then we'll tie it together. If we need to put multiple people in jail, then we'll do so. We're still in the onset of this investigation. These things take time,” said Kilgo.
