The Marlboro County Sheriff's Office plans to meet with the Fourth Circuit Solicitor to discuss if charges should be filed in an incident Thursday when two children were bitten by a dog in the Wallace area of Marlboro County, according to Lt. Trevor Murphy with the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office.

"The dog was seized and we are working with Animal Control and the Solicitor's Office in reference to bringing charges forward regarding the incident," said Murphy via text message.

Lt. Murphy said the children were treated that night and later had surgeries for some of the injuries.

The mother of the children, who wishes to not be named, released the following statement.

My son(he is 12) was attacked not far from our back porch. The dog was going after my 7 year old daughter but her brother snatched her out the way and screamed for her to run in the house. When the dog first bit him on the leg it snatched him to the ground. The dog then tried to go for his neck but my son lifted his arm to block his face and neck. Which caused him to be bitten again around his arm pit and shoulder. He managed to get back up and the dog just started tugging and treating his leg like a chew toy.

She then went on to explain how they were able to get away from the dog.

"My older son got the dog loose by shooting in the air," she stated to ABC15. Her son was then taken to the hospital by ambulance. "Since then he has developed an infection and has had to see a surgeon and an orthopedic. This has been so traumatic for our entire family."

She's steadily hoping for improvement in her children's health.

"We are praying that the antibiotics that he was given, both oral and IV, will stop the infection and clear it up. Unfortunately, he isn't able to walk without help and has been prescribed a walker but insurance doesn't cover it."

"The Sherriff's Office has been very helpful. On the other hand, the vicious pit bull was released back to his owner the next day. As of two days ago, the owner still had possession. We believe the dog should be put down but everywhere I turn I get no results," the mother explained.

ABC15 has requested more details in the investigation and will provide an update as soon as it becomes available.

There are no further details to release at this time.
