Crews battle large fire at recycling facility in Florence

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — West Florence Fire Rescue along with City of Florence, Windy Hill Fire and Florence County EMS crews are on scene of a fire Sunday American Steel and Recycling for a working fire.

West Florence Fire Marshal Dwight Mobley said a worker was picking up a car with a backhoe when the car ignited.

You could see tall flames and plumes of black smoke for miles.

This is the second major fire at the business in the past year.

Last March, one caught fire and ignited several others.
