Man dies saving wife from Columbia condo fire

One person is dead after an early morning fire at a Columbia condominium complex.

According to the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, the fire happened at Point Arcadia Regime, located at 6905 Cleaton Road. CFD secured the scene around 9:20 a.m. and began conducting searches.

Around 10:30 a.m., the department stated one victim was recovered from the condos.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts is at the scene. More information on the victim's identity will be released at a later time.

According to Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins, the victim was a man who went back into a condo to wake his wife.

A total of six were displaced in the fire. The American Red Cross has been alerted.

Three two-story condos suffered significant damage.

Because of this fire, the portion of Decker Boulevard between O'Neill Court and Cleaton Road is closed until further notice.
