Coker College has a new name
Hartsville, S.C. (WPDE) —
Coker College is changing its name to Coker University to better reflect its overall growth.
The school recently added several new graduate degrees and online programs.
School administrators said the Board of Trustees approved the name change this week.
Coker's President Dr. Robert Wyatt released the following statement regarding the matter:
Although we are updating our name to reflect our five new graduate degrees and our significant online presence, we are committed to retaining the essence of the close-knit community we have always been and that has led to our national recognition as a leading innovation institution in the southeast. We will have more details early next year as we transition to Coker University officially on July 1, 2019.
The school's website says, "Coker College is a student-focused, private liberal arts college located in Hartsville, South Carolina. Coker combines round table, discussion-based learning with hands-on experiences to encourage active participation in and out of the classroom. A supportive, close-knit community prepares Coker students with the confidence and practical life skills they need to reach their personal best, in college and beyond.
