Georgetown, S.C. (WPDE) — Brendon Barber has bested Ron Charlton in the Georgetown mayoral race.
"I tell you, right now there's a peace because, right now, we're trying to let it all settle in. It's so surreal," said Barber.
Barber had 61 percent of the votes, with 1,411.
Charlton had 39 percent, with 898 votes.
The results are unofficial and will be certified on Thursday.
Barber will be the first African-American mayor for the city.
"We're making history as an entire community. I'm so proud of how the entire community came together to help me with this campaign. I'm talking about people from every neighborhood, every community," said Barber.
